Overview

With an all-new design language for 2018, Sony has reimagined their flagship Xperia smartphone line. 

Camera

The original MotionEye broke new ground in mobile photography with its 960fps super slow-motion recording. Now Sony has upped the game with a Dual MotionEye setup that can record 960fps even at Full HD resolution. 

Technologies from Sony's standalone, award-winning α range still cameras and camcorders have been implemented into mobile for the first time. A dedicated AUBE fusion image signal processor aligns the images captured through the large dual sensor with a fidelity and accuracy unmatched by the competition.

Due to the larger sensors and improved post-processing, low light imagery and video have massively reduced noise and artefacts compared to previous camera arrays. 

Alongside the primary 19MP MotionEye lens is a secondary 12MP monochrome sensor. Through this, you can obtain native black & white photography without the need for filters or post-processing. By using B/W rather than RGB for the second sensor, depth of field effects are also made sharper with the opportunity for more subtle shadowing or sharper definition.

It's not all about the back though! The front of the Xperia XZ2 Premium has a large-sensor 13 MP lens which also benefits from 5-axis gyro EIS for stable selfies no matter what angle you're trying to take them from!!

Jumping into the world of AR, Sony also has 3D Creator. Use the XZ2 Premium's camera to scan an object and have 3D Creator turn it into a digital replica. 

Design

A bold redesign for 2018, Sony's newest flagship smartphones all feature a highly curved rear surface built to match the contours of most hands. 

The fluid surface of the Xperia XZ2 Premium has glass front and rear, catching and reflecting light from every angle. On the back of the phone, Sony has moved the camera to a central location to make composing shots easier in either portrait or landscape. The fingerprint sensor also sits below this in a more natural location than before. 

Corning Gorilla Glass 5 adorns both the front and back of the phone to resist scratches over time. Additionally, the handset is IP 65/68 certified to withstand splashes and spills.

Display

Following on from the original XZ Premium, Sony has installed a true 4K display on the Xperia XZ2 Premium.

Sony provides an HDR10 certified display, with all their X-Reality engine & Triluminos display technologies present.

A Dynamic Vibration System and S-Force Front Surround speakers all work in tandem during video playback to create an engaging, immersive experience, unlike any other phone. 

Audio

Sony knows what it means to push the boundaries of excellence in audio. High-Resolution audio is the gold standard and every Sony flagship handset supports it. DSEE HX technology is employed as well to improve the playback quality of compressed files. 

Embracing the wireless future, Sony has deployed the most advanced Bluetooth protocols and additional features to ensure seamless streaming.

On the front of the Xperia XZ2 you'll find powerful stereo speakers powered by Sony's S-Force surround system.
